Strokes of Genius

Strokes of Genius, Contemporary Art, publish in London, UK, 1997

Fully illustrated in color, this comprehensive survey gathers Iraq's globally scattered talents into one volume. Due to recent world events, may Iraqis have had to seek alternative habitations outside their homeland, and an innovative body of artworks has emerged. Much of the new artwork addresses the complexities in the artists' lives, be it outside Iraq, or inside the country, where day to day survival is an enormous struggle. Based on extensive research and interviews, this volume incorporates essays which explore the status and content of current artworks, and a comprehensive collection of biographical notes on the artists.

Arab Art Histories

Arab Art Histories. The Khalid Shoman Collection, Darat al Funun, Amman Jordan. Published in English, French and Arabic in 2013

Begun in the early 1980s, the Khalid Shoman Collection in Amman is one of the first of its kind dedicated exclusively to contemporary art of the Arab world. This extensive and richly illustrated book gathers the voices of artists, architects, critics and scholars to reflect on the collection and its role in narrating a regional art history. Its presentation of diverse works by over 140 artists traces the shifts and transformations in Arabic artistic practices over the last 40 years, while contributions by Anneka Lenssen, Ibrahim Rashid, Faisal Darraj, Hassan Khan, Sarah Rogers and Saleem Al-Bahloly, among others, offer essays and insights exploring a range of art historical concerns and personal reflections.
